Do you have an interest in Swimming, Running or Cycling and want to combine these interests with your Duke of Edinburgh's Award?

At Solihull Triathlon Club we are pleased to provide activities aligned to the DofE sections:

These activities may count towards your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Skills, Volunteering, Physical section, please check with your DofE leader for applicability before booking.
You do not need to have any prior experience of Triathlon to take part in these activities.

Whilst there are costs associated with these activities, Solihull Triathlon Club is not for profit and these activities have been priced just to reflect costs incurred by the Club. Bursaries are available for DofE applicants.

Volunteering

3 Months Coaching Support

  • Minimum age 15
  • Support the coaches in their delivery of coaching sessions
  • Club Hoodie + Club T-Shirt for when you are supporting coaches
  • Gain an understanding of what is like to coach
  • Work with both adult athletes and junior athletes
  • Work with a variety of experience from beginners to Age Group athletes
  • Support 6 x 1hr swim sessions – Mondays / Wednesdays
  • Support 6 x 1.5hr run sessions – Saturday mornings
  • Club membership and access to Club training sessions
  • Fixed cost is £41

12 Months Be a Coach

  • Minimum age 16
  • You will have needed to gain and maintain through Continuous Professional Development, your British Triathlon Federation L1 Coaching – see 6-month Skills option
  • Put into practice the skills you have learned in your coaching qualification
  • Work as part of the coaching team you’ll
    • learn from more experienced coaches
    • gain peer feedback and contribute feedback
    • attend quarterly coaching meetings and see how a coaching team is organised
  • Deliver either
    • 1hr swim coaching sessions per week – Mondays / Wednesdays or
    • 1.5hrs run coaching sessions per week – Saturday mornings
  • Free Solihull Tri COACH Jacket
  • As a coach you get FREE Club membership and access to Club training sessions

3 Months - Target Pool Based Aquathlon

  • Minimum age 14 and you’ll need to be able to swim 200m already
  • Training period starts February 2018
  • Includes
    • Solihull Triathlon Club Membership
    • 6 x 1 hr swim training session
    • 6 x 1.5 hr run training sessions – plus options to do join more run sessions
    • Entry into Solihull Aquathlon on 29th April 400m Swim and 5k Run
    • Event T-Shirt
    • British Triathlon Race Day Licence
  • Fixed cost is £71

6 Months – Target Open Water Based Triathlon Race – Youth Categories

  • Minimum age 15 (at 30th December 2017) and you’ll need to be able to swim 200m already
  • Training period starts February 2018
  • Includes:
    • Solihull Triathlon Club Membership
    • Club Technical T-Shirt and Club Hoodie
    • 10 x 1 hr swim training session
    • 10 x 1.5 hr run training session - plus options to do more run sessions
    • 2 x 1 hr open water training sessions
    • 2 x 1.5hr cycle track training session
    • NOWCA membership to access open water swimming venue
    • Entry into Solihull Aquathlon on 29th April
  • Fixed cost is £154
  • Excludes:
    • Entry into the open water triathlon event of your choice such as the local Sandwell Junior Triathlon for Junior Athletes or BRAT Triathlon for older athletes
    • Consider obtaining a BTF Membership at £24/yr

12 Months – Target British Triathlon West Midlands Junior Race Series Tristar 3 and Youth Categories

  • Minimum age 14 (at 30th December 2017) and you’ll need to be able to swim 200m already
  • 2018 series is still being developed, but the 2017 details are here
  • You need to enter at least four of the events to have competed in the series - costs of these are not included but range from £16-30/event
  • Included in £233 package:
    • Club Membership
    • Club Technical T-Shirt and Club Hoodie
    • BTF Membership
    • NOWCA Membership to access open water swimming venue
    • 24 x 1 hr swim training session
    • 2 x 1 hr open water training sessions
    • 2 x 1.5hr cycle track training session
    • 24 x 1.5hr run training sessions – plus options to do join more run sessions
    • Entry into Solihull Aquathlon on 29th April as above

Skills

6 months Become a Coach

  • Minimum age 16
  • At the completion you will be able to lead and deliver (pre-planned) sessions or plan basic sessions on their own (reviewed by higher level coach) in a range of club environments (without the need to be directly supervised if over the age of 18). You will gain the knowledge to adapt sessions to meet the needs of a variety of participants
  • The course focuses on developing key coaching skill including:
    • How to communicate effectively
    • How to engage athletes
    • How to give quality meaningful feedback
  • You will also be introduced to the triathlon disciplines (swim, bike, run and transitions) and the basic skills to be coached. You will also cover athlete safety and welfare, session preparation, evaluation and reflection.
  • The course is supported by an online resource, which contains all the information required to complete the course, and develop your own coaching knowledge and skills
  • Requires
    • 14+ hours of home based computer training
    • 2 full "learning" days
  • Fixed cost is £384
